Golf Course Road in Gurugram flooded after a very heavy rainstorm.

Water rose to people’s knees near DLF Magnolias.

This happened even though the area has very expensive homes.

The city’s drains were originally built for much less rain.

They were upgraded, but Monday’s intense rainfall was still too much for them.

DLF said water from its buildings could not flow into already-full outside drains.

This caused water to push back and collect inside the area.

Officials also said rainwater runs downhill from the Aravalli hills onto the road.

They said larger drains may be needed to reduce future flooding.
