Haryana protesters clash with Hansi police over dairy operator murder
A man named Jeevan, who had a dairy business, was attacked and killed on August 4.
Police say about ten to twelve young people from his neighbourhood beat him with sticks and clubs.
Some suspects have been arrested, but the police still cannot find the person believed to be the main culprit.
Jeevan's family and many villagers were so upset that they said they would not cremate his body until everyone involved was caught.
On Independence Day, farmers travelled to the town of Hansi to protest and ask the Chief Minister for help.
The farmers tried to push past police to reach the celebration, and a fight broke out.
Police used batons and stones were thrown from both sides, so several people, including police officers, got hurt.
Police have registered a case against many of the protesters and say they are continuing their search for the main accused.
A reward has been offered to anyone who helps find him.
Protesters from farmers' bodies clashed with police in Hansi on August 15 while trying to force their way toward the state-level Independence Day function where Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini unfurled the tricolour.
The protest demanded the arrest of all accused in the murder of dairy operator Jeevan, whose body has not been cremated for 11 days as family and villagers refuse to proceed until the arrests are made.
Reports differ on the number of arrests - seven suspects per one account and nine per another - while alleged main accused Ramesh Sharma, reportedly close to an influential MLA, remains absconding.
Hansi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar and a DSP were injured; a purported video shows the SP throwing stones, which he said was a response to stone-pelting by protesters that injured five to six police personnel.
Police registered an FIR against nearly 200 people, detained several protesters, announced a Rs 50,000 reward for the absconding accused, and issued Look Out Circulars against wanted accused.
