Delhi Draft Voter Rolls Exclude 47.56 Lakh; Claims Remain Open
Delhi checked its voter list in a process called a Special Intensive Revision.
The draft list now has about 97.53 lakh voters instead of about 1.45 crore.
This means nearly 47.57 lakh names were left out for now.
Most of those names belonged to people marked absent or permanently shifted.
Some names were also marked as belonging to deceased voters or people registered in more than one place.
The number of exclusions was different in different parts of Delhi.
Okhla and several other constituencies had particularly high deletion rates.
People whose names are missing can ask for inclusion or correction before the final list is published.
Delhi's draft electoral roll lists 97,53,577 voters, down from 1,45,10,299 before the revision.
A total of 47,56,722 names, or 32.8% of the earlier electorate, were excluded at the draft stage.
Permanently shifted or absent voters made up 43,32,775 exclusions, while 2,82,412 were marked deceased and 1,41,535 duplicates.
Deletion rates were especially high in several minority-dominated and SC-reserved constituencies, ranging from about 20% to 45% or more.
Voters can seek inclusion or correction through Form 6 during the claims period ending September 30; the final roll is scheduled for November 4.
