Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra is the new Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

He took the oath on Monday.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria gave him the oath.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini attended the ceremony.

Mishra previously worked at the Allahabad High Court.

He practiced law for about 20 years and became an advocate in 1993.

He recently ordered Punjab to pay government employees their unpaid dearness allowance.

Punjab has challenged that decision in the Supreme Court, while employees have filed a contempt case over non-compliance.
