Telangana Gram Panchayat Workers Protest Wage Revision, Job Security
Gram panchayat workers in Warangal held a protest about their pay and jobs.
They help keep villages clean and provide sanitation services.
The workers said they have been paid very little for many years.
They also said their jobs are not secure.
Their union asked the government to provide higher minimum wages and make their jobs permanent.
The union said workers currently receive Rs.
9,500, although a previous pay revision set Rs.
15,600.
They want the government to implement a promised minimum wage of Rs.
26,000.
They also asked for pending wages, protection from unfair dismissal and support for families of workers who died.
Gram panchayat employees and workers protested outside the Warangal district collectorate on Monday.
The Telangana Gram Panchayat Employees and Workers Union submitted a memorandum to District Revenue Officer Jayalakshmi.
Workers demanded implementation of minimum wages, permanent appointments and inclusion under the second pay revision committee.
The union said workers receive Rs. 9,500 despite a previous pay revision wage of Rs. 15,600, and sought the promised minimum wage of Rs. 26,000.
Other demands included withdrawing the multipurpose worker scheme, releasing pending wages and protecting workers from illegal dismissals.
