Doctors Reattach Completely Amputated Hand in 7-Hour Ghaziabad Surgery
A young man who was working at a construction site had a very serious accident.
His right hand got caught in a big machine and was completely cut off at the wrist.
He was rushed to a hospital called Yashoda Medicity in Ghaziabad.
Luckily, his severed hand was brought with him and kept in good condition.
Doctors quickly performed a very delicate operation that lasted about seven hours.
Using special microscopes, they connected the tiny blood vessels, tendons, and nerves back together.
They also gave him a blood transfusion because he had lost a lot of blood.
The operation was a success, and blood is now flowing to his hand again.
He has gone home and will do special exercises to slowly regain movement and strength in his hand over the next few months.
An 18-year-old construction worker from Hapur had his right hand completely amputated at the wrist when it became trapped in a machine at a Ghaziabad construction site on July 21.
He was rushed to the emergency department of Yashoda Medicity hospital with his severed hand, which had been properly preserved.
A team led by plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Shobhit Sharma and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Brajesh Koushle performed the emergency surgery, which lasted around seven hours.
Using microsurgical techniques, doctors repaired the fractured wrist bones and reconnected arteries, veins, tendons, nerves and damaged soft tissue, restoring blood flow to the hand; the patient also received a blood transfusion.
The patient recovered well, has been discharged in stable condition, and will undergo physiotherapy and rehabilitation to regain strength and function over the coming months.
