Vedanta Power Reaffirms India Energy Security Commitment on Independence Day
India just celebrated its 80th birthday as an independent country.
On that special day, a big company called Vedanta Power made a promise.
Vedanta Power makes electricity by burning coal, and it is the fifth-biggest private company of its kind in India.
The company promised to help India always have enough electricity.
It wants to get coal from inside India instead of buying it from other countries.
Buying coal from other countries can be expensive and unpredictable.
Vedanta Power already gets most of its coal from Indian mines.
It is also changing one of its power plants to use more Indian coal.
The company says reliable electricity helps India grow strong and independent.
Its leaders said this work supports India's dream of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Vedanta Power Limited, India's fifth-largest private thermal power producer, reaffirmed its commitment to India's energy security on the country's 80th Independence Day.
The company has a total power generation capacity of 4.78 GW, with 4.18 GW operational and 0.6 GW under commissioning across Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Around 74% of the company's capacity is backed by long- and medium-term Power Purchase Agreements, while approximately 85% of its operational capacity has domestic coal linkages.
Fuel security relies on long-term domestic coal linkages through Coal India subsidiaries MCL, SECL and NCL, including 100% linkage coal at its Talwandi Sabo and Jharsuguda thermal plants.
Meenakshi Energy Limited in Andhra Pradesh is transitioning from imported coal towards domestic coal to enhance fuel security and reduce exposure to global fuel market volatility.
