Manipur Assembly Unanimously Seeks NRC Update Before Census
The Manipur Assembly is a group of elected lawmakers in the state.
It unanimously asked India’s government to update a list of citizens in Manipur before the next Census.
The Chief Minister said this request repeats decisions made by the Assembly in 2022 and 2024.
The Home Minister said most fencing along the international border has been completed.
He also said there was no official report about a proposed land swap between India and Myanmar.
Leaders were asked to help rebuild trust and peace among communities.
The Assembly also discussed extra government spending of Rs 3,861 crore for the 2026-27 financial year.
Several new Bills were introduced, and the session was adjourned until September 3.
The Manipur Legislative Assembly unanimously urged the Government of India to update the National Register of Citizens in Manipur before the Census.
Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh moved the resolution, reaffirming resolutions passed in August 2022 and March 2024.
Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said there was no official report of an India-Myanmar land swap and that most border fencing had been completed.
The Assembly considered supplementary grants of Rs 3,861 crore for 2026-27, including Rs 3,849 crore requiring approval by vote.
The government introduced several Bills covering town planning, wetlands, taxation, investment, employment, licensing, panchayats and emergency services.
