Govt urges focus on timely completion of infrastructure projects
The Indian government wants to build roads, factories and other big projects faster.
Leaders met to talk about industrial corridors, which are areas where many factories and businesses are built together.
They said approving a project is not enough; the work must actually get finished on time.
The Finance Minister asked states to fix problems like getting land and electricity.
She also said workers need homes, hospitals, schools and buses near factories.
The Commerce Minister wants to attract investors from other countries.
He said new industrial areas should be planned together with roads and railways.
Another minister wants to use rivers for moving goods and build more factories in the northeast of India.
A NITI Aayog leader said local project teams should have more power to make decisions.
The goal is to make India a stronger place for making things.
The government said focus should move beyond project approvals towards timely completion of infrastructure, land allotment, investment and commencement of production.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urged states to resolve bottlenecks related to land, connectivity, utilities, statutory clearances and the powers of project special purpose vehicles (SPVs).
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal called for aligning 'BHAVYA' and future industrial developments with PM GatiShakti through an integrated area-development approach.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasised integrating national waterways with industrial corridors and developing industrial infrastructure in the North-Eastern States.
NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri urged states to empower project SPVs with adequate planning, development and municipal powers under the Industrial Corridor Programme.
The ministers spoke at the third meeting of the apex monitoring authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT).
