NFR Advances Major Railway Projects Across Guwahati Region
Guwahati is an important railway hub, and many people use its trains every day.
Northeast Frontier Railway is building extra tracks and a second bridge to help more trains move smoothly.
It is also building a large place to clean and maintain train coaches.
Guwahati and Kamakhya stations are being improved for passengers.
A new station entrance and a road overbridge are intended to help people and traffic move more easily.
An elevated railway section is being built near Deepor Beel with wildlife movement in mind.
Freight terminals and rail links are also being improved to move goods around the Northeast.
Some major track projects are expected to be finished by 2028.
Northeast Frontier Railway is advancing rail capacity, station, maintenance and freight projects in and around Guwahati.
The 5.74-km Kamakhya–Guwahati third line, sanctioned for Rs. 467 crore, is targeted for completion by 2028.
A Rs. 1,474-crore project includes a second Saraighat rail-cum-road bridge with double rail tracks and a three-lane road.
A Rs. 227-crore Mega Coaching Complex is under construction at New Guwahati, while Guwahati and Kamakhya stations are being redeveloped.
The Azara–Kamakhya double-line stretch is targeted for completion by July 2028; freight links at Baihata and Jogighopa have also been completed.
