New Double-Line Bridge Near Rajendra Setu Cleared for Operations
A new railway bridge has been built across the Ganga near Mokama.
It sits beside the older Rajendra Setu and has two railway tracks.
A railway safety official inspected the bridge on October 3 and 4.
The official then cleared it for trains to use.
Trains will continue using the old bridge too.
That means there will be three railway lines across the river at this place.
The new link is expected to make train journeys and goods deliveries easier.
Rail traffic in the area is expected to grow about two and a half times.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety authorised operations on the new bridge after inspecting it on October 3 and 4.
The bridge crosses the Ganga at Mokama, parallel to the existing Rajendra Setu.
Built at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore, it carries two railway tracks.
The 15.5-kilometre project includes a 1.9-kilometre main bridge over the river.
The additional capacity is expected to improve passenger and freight movement, with rail traffic estimated to increase about 2.5 times.
