FSSAI Cracks Down as Bournvita Withdraws Health Claims
India’s food regulator is checking whether companies make food products sound healthier or better than they really are.
It has sent more than 150 notices to food businesses.
Bournvita’s maker changed or removed some health-related claims after receiving regulatory attention.
Bournvita had already faced scrutiny in 2023 over sugar levels and nutrition claims in advertisements aimed at children.
The regulator had advised companies in May 2025 to stop using “100%” in food labels and advertisements.
Other companies also changed their packaging and advertising.
Amway removed some “100%” and “Energy Drink” wording, while Juza Foods agreed to withdraw several health claims.
The regulator is also examining online marketplaces and restaurants so consumers receive more accurate information.
Bournvita’s maker withdrew or revised claims after notices from India’s food regulator.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued more than 150 notices over misleading marketing, inaccurate claims, and labelling violations.
Companies named by the regulator include PepsiCo India, Coca-Cola, Abbott India, Red Bull, Danone India, Monster Energy India, Ferrero India, and Kenvue.
Amway India removed its “100% Pure Coconut Oil” branding and the “Energy Drink” label from its caffeinated XS products.
FSSAI also issued 12 notices to e-commerce entities and more than 30 notices to food service operators, including restaurant chains.
