828 principal and vice-principal posts vacant in Delhi schools
Schools need leaders called principals and vice-principals to run them well.
In Delhi, the government runs a lot of schools.
Right now, 828 of these leadership jobs are empty in those schools.
The government has asked the UPSC, a special commission that chooses people for government jobs, to find new principals and vice-principals.
People who want these jobs can apply from July 25 to August 14.
Half of these jobs are meant to be filled by promoting teachers who already work in schools.
Many of those promotion jobs are empty too.
Some schools are currently being led by temporary stand-in vice-principals instead.
Filling these jobs will help schools get permanent leaders for their students and teachers.
A Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) advertisement lists 828 vacant principal and vice-principal posts in Delhi government schools.
Applications are invited from July 25 to August 14 for direct recruitment of 124 principals and 704 vice-principals.
Delhi's Directorate of Education runs around 1,090 government schools.
The Principal and Vice-Principal Government School Association says the sanctioned strength is 950 principal and 1,670 vice-principal posts, with 50 per cent of each category for direct recruitment via UPSC and the rest for promotion.
Around 225 principal and 435 vice-principal promotional-quota posts are vacant, while about 400 vice-principal roles are handled by ad-hoc appointees.
