World's youngest male professor teaches engineering at Miami Dade College
Nathan Thomas is a very smart young man from Florida.
When he was only 10 years old, he started taking college classes.
By the time he was 18, he had already earned two degrees in electrical engineering.
He then became a professor, teaching engineering at Miami Dade College.
He was 18 years and 346 days old, making him the youngest male professor in the world.
That record had been held for more than 300 years by a Scottish mathematician named Colin Maclaurin.
Nathan was also a little younger than the youngest female professor, Alia Sabur.
Nathan says his family of engineers, especially his mother, helped him love science and math.
Now he is 21 and teaches online while studying law at the University of Miami.
He wants to become a lawyer who helps people with inventions and technology.
Nathan Thomas set a Guinness World Record as the world's youngest male professor at age 18 years and 346 days in 2023.
He broke a record held since 1717 by Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin, who began teaching at 19.
Thomas started teaching the engineering course COP 2270: C for Engineers at Miami Dade College in August 2023.
He enrolled at Miami Dade College through a dual-enrolment programme at age 10 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering with honours by 18.
Now 21, Thomas continues to teach online while pursuing a law degree at the University of Miami, hoping to specialize in intellectual property law.
