Antibody Therapy Shows Promise Against Multiple Myeloma
Doctors tested a new medicine called linvoseltamab on people with a serious blood cancer called multiple myeloma.
After giving the medicine to 18 people, they couldn't find any cancer left in their bodies.
This is really good news because usually, these people would need strong chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
The medicine works by helping the body's own immune cells find and destroy the cancer cells.
A few people had some side effects, but they weren't too bad.
The doctors are hopeful that this medicine could help people live longer without the cancer coming back.
Linvoseltamab, a bispecific antibody therapy, showed potential to eradicate residual multiple myeloma cells in a clinical trial with 18 patients.
After up to six cycles of treatment, none of the patients had detectable disease on highly sensitive tests.
The therapy could potentially allow patients to avoid bone marrow transplants and intense chemotherapy.
Linvoseltamab binds to CD3 on T cells and BCMA on multiple myeloma cells, enhancing the body's immune response.
While the therapy shows promise, the possibility of the disease returning cannot be entirely eliminated.
