Amul Takes Indian Dairy Brand Global Through Local Partnerships
Amul is an Indian dairy brand that wants to sell fresh milk in more countries.
Instead of sending Indian milk on long journeys, it works with dairy cooperatives in other countries.
These partners provide local milk, factories and delivery networks.
Amul provides its brand and rules for how the products should be made.
The company first used this approach in the United States with the Michigan Milk Producers Association.
It later partnered with COVAP in Spain to serve Spain and Portugal.
Amul is also planning more expansion in Africa and Southeast Asia.
This approach helps Amul grow internationally without building a complete dairy system in every new country.
Amul is using local milk, facilities and supply chains to sell fresh milk overseas under its brand.
Its first large-scale fresh-milk partnership was with Michigan Milk Producers Association in the United States in March 2024.
In June 2025, Amul partnered with Spain’s COVAP to pack milk for Spain, Portugal and eventually other European Union markets.
The company is expanding reported local packing and production plans in Africa and pursuing markets in Southeast Asia.
GCMMF reported FY26 turnover of Rs 73,450 crore, while the wider Amul group’s reported turnover exceeded Rs 1 lakh crore.
