The Union government wants to help farmers in Telangana use newer farming methods.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said a plan for this work will be announced soon.

The goal is to help farmers earn more money from their crops.

Some successful farmers already earn as much as Rs 5 lakh per acre.

Several government programmes for farming, irrigation, soil testing and fertilisers are expected to be fully used in the state.

Government agriculture officials from southern states will meet in Hyderabad to discuss these plans.

Chouhan also said crop insurance was not used by the earlier BRS government.

The current state government plans to begin the crop insurance programme next financial year.
