Anbumani urges TN to clear paddy bags stranded at DPCs

Farmers in a part of India called the Cauvery delta grow paddy, which is the grain that becomes rice.

After harvesting, farmers bring their paddy to special collection centres so the government can buy it.

But there are not enough trucks to carry the paddy from these centres to storage godowns.

So more than ten lakh bags of paddy are sitting out in the open, waiting to be moved.

The weather forecast says heavy rain is coming to the delta region very soon.

If the rain soaks the paddy, it could be completely ruined, and farmers would lose their hard work.

A leader named Anbumani Ramadoss is asking the Tamil Nadu government to move the paddy quickly to safe storage and rice mills.

A drought earlier this year already damaged part of the crop, pushing up rice prices in shops by Rs 10 to Rs 15 per kilogram.

He wants the government to fix the truck shortage so procurement can start again without delay.
