Telangana Cracks Down on Sand Overloading With Fines
Telangana is introducing tougher rules for trucks and other heavy vehicles carrying sand.
Vehicles carrying extra sand will be fined ₹2,000 for every extra metric tonne.
Trucks with more than two overloading violations can be stopped from booking sand online.
Officials will monitor sand excavation sites, stockyards and transport routes more closely.
District collectors and police officers can access the online monitoring system.
Inspections will happen all day and night in three shifts.
Unauthorised excavation or transport between 11 pm and 6 am can lead to penalties.
The government says the measures are meant to stop illegal sand trade and protect public money.
The action also follows a Chevella crash in which an overloaded tipper killed 19 people and injured 24.
