Telangana Deploys Elite Police Teams Against Defaulting Rice Millers
Telangana has assigned about 28 specially trained police personnel to its Civil Supplies Department.
They come from the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS units.
Their new job is to inspect rice mills that may not be following government rules.
They will work in special teams across the state.
The teams may conduct surprise checks and gather information during inspections.
Before starting, the personnel received three days of training.
The department wants to protect paddy and rice stocks used in government supply programs.
Officials warned that millers who break the rules could face criminal cases and other strict action.
Telangana inducted 28 personnel from the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS units into its Civil Supplies Enforcement and Vigilance wing.
The personnel completed a three-day training program on essential-commodities laws, enforcement procedures and departmental protocols.
They will form special task teams conducting surprise inspections of defaulting rice mills across Telangana.
The state procured 154 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during the KMS 2025-2026 season, spending about Rs.40,000 crore.
Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra said violations could lead to immediate criminal cases and stringent legal action.
