Delhi MLA urges Green Budget funds for EV charging points

A leader in Delhi named Abhay Kumar Verma wants the city government to help build more places where electric cars can charge.

Electric cars run on batteries and need charging stations, just like phones need charging cables.

Verma asked the government to let politicians use special money, called Green Budget or MLALAD funds, to set up these charging points in their areas.

He said there are not enough charging stations in his neighborhood and in other parts of Delhi.

More people in Delhi are now buying electric cars.

In July of this year, more than 10,000 new electric cars were registered in Delhi, the most in any single month this year.

That is more than the number registered in June or in July last year.

The Delhi government has a plan called EV Policy 2.0 to spend about Rs 15,000 crore over the next four years to encourage electric cars.

Officials also plan to set up more than 30,000 charging points across the city.

Verma said limited land in some areas could make building charging stations difficult.
