Nellore Flags Off Garbage Collection Vehicles for Waste Pickers
In a place called Nellore, some grown-ups who collect rubbish for a living got new garbage collection vehicles.
These workers are called waste pickers.
The district collector, Himanshu Shukla, helped start the programme by waving off the new vehicles.
The vehicles were given to 30 waste pickers at a special event at the Collectorate.
The event was looked after by district revenue officer N. Vijayakumar.
A group called the Navjeevan Organisation helped make this happen.
The group has been helping waste pickers in Nellore for 30 years.
They care about the workers' health, education and money.
The new vehicles will help the waste pickers earn more money.
It will also make their work safer and more organised.
Another group called NSKFDC supports this plan to bring machines into cleaning work.
Nellore district collector Himanshu Shukla flagged off garbage collection vehicles for 30 waste pickers under a Navjeevan Organisation initiative.
The programme, held at the Collectorate, aims to improve waste pickers' income and integrate them into organised solid waste management.
Navjeevan Organisation president Kalvapalli Sahadevayya said the organisation has worked for waste pickers' welfare in Nellore district for the past 30 years.
The organisation is currently implementing welfare and development programmes for 2,059 waste pickers in the district.
With support from the NSKFDC, the initiative promotes the transition from manual to mechanised sanitation across five southern states.
