Jaishankar: Africa Is India's Priority, Needs Due Global Place

India's foreign minister, Mr. Jaishankar, gave a speech at a special event called Africa Day in New Delhi.

Africa Day is a day that remembers when many African countries came together as a group in 1963.

He said that Africa is one of India's most important friends and partners.

He told everyone that Africa deserves a bigger and fairer role in how the world makes decisions.

India promised to give ten million dollars' worth of medical equipment to help keep people in African countries healthy.

India also wants to hold a big meeting called the India Africa Forum Summit, which was delayed because of the Ebola virus.

India has opened many new offices in Africa, so it now has people working in 46 African countries.

Mr. Jaishankar said India wants Africa to have a seat at important world decision-making tables, like the United Nations.

In return, India hopes Africa will support India's wish to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

He said India and Africa are like one big family that wants to build a better future together.
