Crackdown in Bengaluru on illegal bike taxis: 263 two-wheelers seized
Some people in Bengaluru were using their personal motorcycles to give paid rides, like a taxi.
Rules say bikes registered for private use are not allowed to carry passengers for money.
The Karnataka Transport Department wanted to stop this.
Officers carried out a special checking drive across the city on Wednesday, August 5.
They stopped and checked bikes that looked like they were being used as taxis.
In one day, they took away 263 motorcycles.
The owners were breaking the Motor Vehicles Act, which is the law that governs vehicles.
The department said this is part of its ongoing effort to stop such illegal use.
Taking away the bikes is meant to discourage people from breaking the rules.
