Prayagraj Schools Closed Amid Torrential Rain, Severe Waterlogging
It rained a lot in a city called Prayagraj in India.
The rain was so heavy that roads and low areas filled with water.
Because of this, all schools in the city were closed on Tuesday, August 18.
This was done to keep students and teachers safe.
Weather experts said more heavy rain is coming all week.
They put out an orange warning for the whole state of Uttar Pradesh.
The rain is happening because of strong monsoon weather patterns.
People were told to stay away from flooded areas and rivers.
They were also told not to stand under trees during lightning.
Even with all this rain, the state still has less rain than normal for the season.
All schools in Prayagraj were closed on Tuesday, August 18, due to torrential rain and severe waterlogging.
A 'rainy day' holiday was declared for all council, secondary, and recognized/aided schools from pre-primary to Class 12.
The India Meteorological Department issued an Orange Alert for Uttar Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 17 to 23.
Uttar Pradesh faces a 20% seasonal rainfall deficit, with East UP at 27% and West UP at 8% below normal.
Churk in Sonbhadra recorded the highest rainfall at 147.2 mm in the last 24 hours.
