Mysuru Division Completes Ghat Section Electrification
The Mysuru Division of SouthWestern Railway has finished a big project to electrify a very difficult part of the railway called the Ghat Section.
This section is 55 kilometers long and has lots of tunnels, bridges, and steep slopes.
It took two years to complete and cost about Rs 93.55 crore.
The project was hard because of the steep slopes, heavy rain, and landslides.
Now, trains can run on electricity here, which is better for the environment and more efficient.
The railway did special tests to make sure everything is safe, especially in the tunnels.
This project helps the Indian Railways move closer to using only electricity for all its trains.
SouthWestern Railway’s Mysuru Division completed the electrification of the 55-km Ghat Section between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road.
The project, costing Rs 93.55 crore, included 57 tunnels, 258 bridges, and 108 sharp curves, with a steep gradient of 1 in 50.
Electrification was completed with a maximum permissible speed of 120 kmph and special attention to tunnel safety.
The project faced challenges due to steep gradients, heavy rainfall, frequent landslides, and stringent safety restrictions.
The electrification enables cleaner, more energy-efficient, and cost-effective train operations, aligning with Indian Railways’ goal of 100% electrification.
