IIT Hyderabad Eco Festival Highlights Rangelands and Climate Change
IIT Hyderabad held a festival about nature and the people who care for animals and grasslands.
The event was part of celebrations for the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.
People watched films about herding communities, livestock, biodiversity and climate change.
Some films came from India, Germany and the United Kingdom.
Two Indian documentaries were made from Dr Rashmi Singh's research in the Indian Himalaya.
Students and faculty discussed how pastoral communities depend on ecosystems and changing landscapes.
The festival also included photographs, cartoons and activities about reusing and recycling.
Speakers explained that small actions, such as saving water and electricity, can help protect the environment.
IIT Hyderabad hosted the 11th Babul Eco Film Festival during celebrations for IYRP 2026.
Films and discussions examined pastoral communities, rangelands, livestock, biodiversity and climate change.
Screenings included Planet Sheep, The Big Steppe, Gyur Se and Bagaal.
The programme also featured a photographic exhibition, EcoCartoon display and Reuse and Recycle Drive.
Speakers encouraged environmental responsibility through water and electricity conservation and waste reduction.
