Rajasthan Governor urges collective action for drug-free India
The Governor of Rajasthan, a leader of an Indian state, went to a university in the town of Banswara.
He spoke at a big meeting about making India free from drugs.
He said drugs are being used to weaken the country's young people.
He told everyone to help friends who are addicted and to tell the police about people who sell drugs.
He warned that driving after taking drugs or alcohol can cause accidents that kill young people.
He also asked people to help sick neighbours with tuberculosis get the medical care they need.
He said universities are like temples, and that students are like gods and teachers are like priests.
He explained that good education can end poverty and encouraged tribal students to go to college.
He remembered a tribal leader named Govind Guru who fought against British rule.
At the end, he planted a Khejri tree, which is the state tree of Rajasthan.
Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde called on citizens to help build a drug-free India at a national seminar at Govind Guru Tribal University in Banswara.
He urged people to counsel those affected by addiction and report drug traffickers to the police.
He cautioned that driving under the influence of intoxicants claims the lives of many young people.
He cited the Government's TB-Free India campaign and appealed for help in getting tuberculosis patients timely medical care.
Bagde said Vice-Chancellors involved in financial irregularities in universities had been suspended, calling it an unprecedented step in Rajasthan's history.
He planted a Khejri sapling, Rajasthan's State Tree, on the university campus.
