Kerala, Odisha Lag in MPLADS Fund Payments to Vendors

The government of India has a program called MPLADS that gives members of Parliament money to build useful things like roads and community spaces in the areas they represent.

The money goes to the state government, which is supposed to pass it on to the workers and companies that build the projects.

This story is about which states are quick to pass the money along and which are slow.

Kerala was the slowest, sending only about 36 rupees out of every 100 rupees it received to the people doing the work.

Odisha was just a little better, sending about 37 out of every 100 rupees.

States in the northeast, like Nagaland, did the best, sending almost 90 out of every 100 rupees.

Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh still owed the biggest amounts of money in total.

The government also checked many completed projects and found that about 95 out of every 100 assets were still working and usable.

About 87 out of every 100 projects were approved on time, and most were finished within one year.

Overall, the projects themselves are mostly in good shape, but some states need to send the money out faster.
