Speaker Marshals Out Eight AAP MLAs Over Rice Scam Row
AAP stages protest in Delhi Assembly against rice ‘scam’, 8 MLAs marshalled out of House · indianexpress.com

In Delhi, there is a special meeting place called the Delhi Assembly where elected helpers called MLAs discuss and make rules for the city.

Some of these MLAs belong to a group called the Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP.

They were angry with the food minister, Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, because they think his office did something wrong with rice.

They called it a rice scam and wanted him to leave his job.

On the last day of the monsoon session, they shouted slogans, held up signs, and even threw rice in the meeting room.

The person in charge of the assembly, Speaker Vijender Gupta, said this behavior was very irresponsible and not acceptable.

So he asked special helpers, called marshals, to take the eight angry MLAs out of the room.

The MLAs also sat on the floor near the office of the Leader of the Opposition and asked where the rice meant for the poor had gone.

The food minister says the rice accusation is not true.
