Ola Electric opens sales and service network to dealer partners
Ola Electric is an Indian company that makes electric scooters.
For five years, it sold its scooters only through its own company-owned shops.
Now it is opening its sales and service network to other shops, called dealers, in a big change to how it does business.
The company says this is because the electric vehicle industry has grown up and more people now accept EVs.
Lately, Ola Electric has been selling fewer scooters.
In July, registrations dropped by 24% compared with the same month last year, to about 14,105 scooters.
Its share of the Indian market also fell to about 7%, down from 17% a year earlier.
The company also closed many of its own outlets, shrinking its network from about 4,000 to around 550 by March 2026.
It hopes the new dealer plan will be working well by Diwali in 2026.
A former leader of Hyundai Motor India, BVR Subbu, is coming back to help make the change happen.
Ola Electric announced it is opening its sales and service network to dealer partners across India, a major shift from its direct-to-consumer (D2C) model.
The Bengaluru-based company said in an exchange filing that it is evolving its model as the EV industry matures and consumer acceptance grows, with company-owned stores focusing on brand experience.
July registrations fell 24% year-on-year to 14,105 units, and market share slipped to about 7% from 17% a year earlier.
The sales and service network was rationalised to around 550 outlets by March 2026, down from about 4,000, as part of a 'structural reset' amid service-related issues.
BVR Subbu, former President of Hyundai Motor India, will rejoin Ola Electric as Senior Advisor, with meaningful dealer scale targeted by Diwali 2026.
