Mumbai Reports 2,033 Idol Immersions by Fifth-Day Evening

Mumbai is observing its 12-day Ganesh festival.

On the fifth day, people immersed idols in the city’s water bodies.

Officials said 2,033 idols had been immersed by 6 p.m.

on September 18.

These included mostly household idols of Lord Ganesh.

Two idols were of Goddess Hartalika, also known as Parvati.

Seventeen idols belonged to public Ganesh community groups.

A separate report said 307 idols had been immersed by 3 p.m., showing that more immersions took place later in the day.

Officials said no untoward incident occurred.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation prepared immersion locations, including artificial ponds, and the festival is scheduled to end on September 25.
