Mumbai Reports 2,033 Idol Immersions by Fifth-Day Evening
Mumbai is observing its 12-day Ganesh festival.
On the fifth day, people immersed idols in the city’s water bodies.
Officials said 2,033 idols had been immersed by 6 p.m.
on September 18.
These included mostly household idols of Lord Ganesh.
Two idols were of Goddess Hartalika, also known as Parvati.
Seventeen idols belonged to public Ganesh community groups.
A separate report said 307 idols had been immersed by 3 p.m., showing that more immersions took place later in the day.
Officials said no untoward incident occurred.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation prepared immersion locations, including artificial ponds, and the festival is scheduled to end on September 25.
Civic officials reported 2,033 Ganesh and Hartalika idols immersed across Mumbai by 6 p.m. on September 18.
The total included 2,011 household Ganesh idols, two Hartalika idols and 17 public Ganesh mandal idols.
An earlier report counted 307 immersions by 3 p.m., comprising 305 household Ganesh idols and two Hartalika idols, with no public-mandal idols.
Officials reported no untoward incident during the immersion process.
During the September 15–16 immersion, 61,640 idols were immersed across Mumbai, including 301 public-mandal, 61,247 household and 92 Hartalika idols.
