Old City Metro work pace irks CM Revanth Reddy
The Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. Revanth Reddy, is in charge of the state where Hyderabad is located.
Hyderabad is building a train that runs above the roads, called a metro.
Some parts of the city, called the Old City, are still waiting for their metro line.
The work there is going very slowly, and the Chief Minister is not happy about it.
He told the people in charge to speed up the road work and start asking companies to build the metro.
One reason for the delay is that the government still needs to buy land from people to make space for the metro.
So far, about 400 out of 1,100 houses and shops have been cleared.
The government is spending almost Rs 2,000 crore to buy this land.
The new metro line will be about 7.5 kilometres long and will go from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station to Falaknuma, passing through places like Purani Haveli and Shalibanda.
The Chief Minister also wants more coaches on the trains so more people can travel comfortably.
Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy expressed displeasure over the slow pace of Hyderabad Metro Rail works in the Old City at a meeting on Tuesday.
Officials told the CM that delayed land acquisition along the 7.5-km stretch between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Chandrayanagutta is a key reason for the slow progress.
Land acquisition for the project costs nearly Rs 2,000 crore, with about 400 of the 1,100 earmarked properties demolished so far.
After L&T's exit, the state government, through Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), is handling tendering and execution; HMRL was told to consult New Delhi Metro on technology.
The route will pass through Darulshifa, Purani Haveli, Haribowli, Shalibanda and other localities before ending at Falaknuma, and the CM ordered procurement of extra metro coaches.
