Jaishankar Says Limited Russia-Ukraine Deal Would Be Positive
India’s foreign minister, S. Jaishankar, said India is talking with both Russia and Ukraine.
The discussions became more active after ships in the Black Sea were attacked and Indian sailors were killed or injured.
India protested to both countries and asked for safer shipping.
The talks also turned to moving grain, fertiliser and fuel.
Jaishankar said it is hard to know whether the conversations will lead to an agreement.
He believes even a small agreement between the two countries would be a good thing.
He also said the United Nations needs reform and that India will speak up for developing countries.
India has been speaking with both Russia and Ukraine since July, Jaishankar said.
The talks began after attacks on Black Sea shipping killed and injured Indian sailors.
India has raised concerns about maritime safety, grain exports, fertiliser and fuel.
Jaishankar said even a limited agreement between Kyiv and Moscow would be a positive step.
