Uttar Pradesh Leads India In Vehicle Scrapping With 48.5%
Uttar Pradesh has scrapped more old vehicles than any other state in India.
More than 1.97 lakh vehicles were scrapped there by July 31, 2026.
Altogether, more than 4.07 lakh vehicles were scrapped across India.
The state says removing old vehicles can help reduce pollution and improve road safety.
It has 92 approved places where old vehicles can be scrapped safely, although 51 are currently operating.
People who scrap an eligible vehicle and buy a new one may receive a road-tax discount.
The government is also encouraging some owners to switch to cleaner vehicles such as CNG, electric and BS-VI vehicles.
Officials are inspecting scrapping facilities after complaints and asking people not to use unauthorized scrap dealers.
More than 4.07 lakh vehicles were scrapped across India by July 31, 2026, including over 1.97 lakh in Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh accounts for approximately 48.5% of all vehicles scrapped nationally.
The state has 92 licensed Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities, of which 51 are operational.
Eligible owners can receive road-tax concessions when buying new vehicles against a Certificate of Deposit.
The state is promoting BS-VI, CNG and electric vehicle replacements in several National Capital Region districts.
