Mumbai BEST Depot PPP Plan Draws Citizen Protest
Mumbai: BEST Land Handover Plan Faces Protest As Citizens’ Group Demands Rollback Of 22-Depot PPP Redevelopment · freepressjournal.in

A citizens’ group in Mumbai is protesting a plan to redevelop 22 BEST bus depots.

The plan would use partnerships between the government and private companies.

It would add facilities such as schools, hospitals, museums, theatres, sports centres and parking spaces.

The group worries that private developers could benefit more than the public.

It also says giving away depot land could make BEST financially weaker.

The group wants BEST to control its own buses, maintenance and operations.

It is asking for at least 10,000 buses owned and maintained by BEST.

The protest is scheduled outside the BMC headquarters on August 27.
