IBM, MIT Bengaluru Launch AI Lab to Democratise AI Skills
A big computer company called IBM and a university in India called Manipal Institute of Technology opened a very powerful computer lab together.
The lab is called MIG and it is in Bengaluru, India.
It has super-fast computers that help with artificial intelligence, or AI, which is how computers learn to do smart things.
The lab can run 30 big computer jobs at the same time, which is a lot of power.
Students, teachers, and researchers from all over India can use it, even people from smaller colleges.
IBM also has a free learning program called SkillsBuild that teaches AI skills through workshops and fun bootcamps.
People who finish can earn special certificates showing what they learned.
The goal is to make sure everyone can learn about AI, not just a few privileged people.
Many leaders from IBM and the Karnataka government spoke at the opening and said the lab will help India become a leader in AI.
Manipal Institute of Technology Bengaluru (MAHE) and IBM inaugurated the IBM-MIT AI Lab – MAHE Intelligence GPU (MIG) at the Bengaluru campus.
The lab houses a GPU-enabled High-Performance Computing facility that can support 30 high-performance computing workloads simultaneously.
Research areas include machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, computer vision, natural language processing, cybersecurity, healthcare, and data analytics.
Through IBM SkillsBuild, an AI Learning Initiative will offer workshops, bootcamps, hands-on training, and digital credentials, including for students from Tier 2 and Tier 3 institutions.
The lab is designed as a hub bridging academia and industry with internships, hackathons, startup incubation, and industry-sponsored projects.
