Patanjali, DS Group Acquire Magma General Insurance for ₹4,500 Crore
Patanjali Ayurved, a company known for herbal medicines and food, is buying a big part of a company that sells insurance.
They are doing this with help from another company called DS Group.
The Indian insurance regulator, IRDAI, has said it’s okay for them to buy the insurance company.
Patanjali will own about 74% of the insurance company, and DS Group will own about 25%.
This move lets Patanjali use its many stores to sell insurance, especially in places where not many people have insurance yet.
The insurance company, Magma General, sells policies for cars, health, homes, and businesses.
It made a lot of money last year and is growing fast.
Patanjali hopes this will help more people get insurance and grow its business beyond food and medicine.
Patanjali Ayurved and DS Group have secured IRDAI approval to acquire nearly ₹4,500 crore stake in Magma General Insurance.
Patanjali will own 73.56% of the insurer, DS Group 24.5%, together taking control of about 98% of the company.
The deal gives Patanjali access to an established general‑insurance business covering motor, health, property and commercial segments.
Magma General Insurance reported FY26 gross written premiums of ₹3,615.48 crore (or ₹4,057 crore) and a net profit of ₹29 crore.
The acquisition is expected to expand insurance penetration in rural and semi‑urban India using Patanjali’s extensive retail network.
