LPG Refill Rules Change October 1 Over Aadhaar Authentication
The government is changing how people receive subsidized cooking gas.
Starting October 1, customers who complete biometric Aadhaar authentication can continue booking refills at the regulated price with a subsidy.
They can complete the process during delivery, at a distributor’s showroom, or at home using an approved app.
People who do not complete authentication can still buy LPG.
However, they must register their choice and will pay the market price without a subsidy.
They may receive 5-kilogram or 10-kilogram cylinders, depending on local availability.
The government says this is meant to make sure subsidies go to eligible families.
It also wants to stop duplicate connections and the use of subsidized cylinders for business purposes.
Consumers completing biometric Aadhaar authentication can book refills at the regulated price with subsidy.
Authentication can be completed during delivery, at an LPG distributor’s showroom, or through self e-KYC apps.
Consumers who do not complete authentication can still receive LPG, but without subsidy at market prices.
Those opting out must register their choice through their OMC’s website, app, WhatsApp chatbot, or IVRS.
The government says the policy targets subsidies to eligible households and prevents duplicate connections and commercial diversion.
