Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Required for Subsidized LPG Refills October 1

Biometric Aadhaar Authentication Required for Subsidized LPG Refills October 1
LPG Aadhaar authentication mandatory from October 1: What domestic consumers need to know · livemint.com

Starting October 1, 2026, people will need biometric Aadhaar authentication to receive subsidized domestic cooking gas.

This means their identity will be checked using Aadhaar and biometric information.

The government says this will help make sure subsidies go to eligible households.

It also says the rule can reduce duplicate connections and stop subsidized cylinders from being diverted to commercial users.

About 89.9% of active LPG consumers had already completed the process by September 19.

People who do not want or cannot complete authentication can still buy LPG.

However, they must register their choice and pay the market price without a subsidy.

They may receive 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, depending on local availability.

They will need to register this choice on their OMC’s digital channels--the consumer web portal, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot, IVRS or other available channels. These consumers will be supplied LPG at applicable market price, without any subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability with the oil marketing companies (OMCs)”

“BAA ensures that subsidised LPG reaches only genuine and deserving households. Linking each connection to the Aadhaar-authenticated consumer helps prevent diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders for commercial and industrial use, removes duplicate and ineligible connections, and makes subsidy delivery transparent and targeted.”
