In the Indian state of Telangana, the person in charge of farming and markets has made an important promise to cotton farmers.

His name is Tummala Nageswara Rao.

He said the government will buy cotton from farmers during the 2026-27 season in a fair and simple way.

Farmers should get a special minimum price, called the Minimum Support Price, for their cotton.

No middlemen are allowed to interfere or make farmers accept lower prices.

The minister warned that farmers must not be forced to sell their cotton for less than this fixed price.

This year, cotton is being grown on about 46.33 lakh acres of land in Telangana.

The country's government has set the price at Rs.8,667 per quintal of long staple cotton, which is Rs.557 more than last year.

The government will also open hundreds of ginning mills to process the cotton so farmers do not have to wait long.
