Rio Says Nagaland Has Become Peaceful and Connected

Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the state is much more peaceful than it was in the past.

He also said Nagaland is becoming better connected to India and the rest of the world.

Rio compared violence in earlier years with violence in the latest five-year period cited in his Assembly remarks.

He said there were more than 257 armed-group-related incidents from 2004 to 2009.

He said only eight such incidents occurred from 2021 to 2026.

The earlier period had more than 120 casualties among underground-group members and civilians, while the later period had four.

One security-force member was reported killed in the later period.

Rio also said Nagaland had very low overall crime and crime against women in 2024 compared with national figures.
