Ola ordered to pay ₹1.30 lakh for deficient scooter service
A man in Kerala, India, bought an electric scooter from a company called Ola.
Soon after, the scooter started breaking.
The back part of the scooter went wrong, and the battery would turn itself off.
He tried to get help from Ola's service centres, but they were far away or had closed.
He even had to use tow trucks to get the scooter to charging points.
The scooter became unusable.
The man complained to a special consumer court that helps people when companies treat them badly.
The court tried to contact Ola, but the company did not show up.
The court said Ola gave bad service and acted unfairly.
It ordered Ola to give the man his money back and pay extra money for his trouble.
Kerala's District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Kasaragod, ordered Ola Electric to pay ₹1,33,999 — a ₹1,03,999 refund plus compensation and costs.
Customer Jithin G.A. reported repeated defects in his Ola S1 Pro Gen 2 electric scooter during the warranty period, including a faulty rear shock absorber and automatic battery shutdown.
Service centres in Kasaragod, Kannur and Mangalore ceased to function, forcing the customer to travel about 100 km and use recovery vehicles to reach charging points.
Ola Electric neither appeared before the commission nor filed a reply, so the case was proceeded against ex parte.
The commission ruled the extended warranty terms — allowing the company to change conditions at any time — amounted to an unfair trade practice.
