Amritsar Police Thwart Terror Plot, Recover 690-Gram IED
Police in a city in India called Amritsar found something very dangerous.
A police officer named Kulbir Singh was looking around at night on August 15.
He saw a black packet wrapped in wax on the ground.
Inside the packet there was a bomb, called an IED, that weighed 690 grams.
There were also parts that could be used to set it off, like a timer, a battery and a detonator.
Police think someone wanted to harm a police building.
A special team that removes bombs came and made the bomb safe.
Nobody was hurt, and the dangerous item was destroyed.
The police registered a case about what happened.
They said they stopped a big problem and kept people safe.
Amritsar Rural Police recovered a 690-gram IED along with an electronic detonator, battery, timer and iron box from a suspicious packet.
The black-coloured, wax-wrapped packet was found by ASI Kulbir Singh during patrolling on the intervening night of August 15-16.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the plot targeted a police establishment and that a potential threat to public safety was averted.
The Bomb Disposal Squad defused the explosive material at the spot, while the remaining items were taken into custody.
A case was registered under the Explosive Substances Act at the Ramdas police station in Amritsar Rural on Sunday.
