Google Retires Assistant, Gemini Takes Over On September 4

Google has a voice helper called Google Assistant that people have talked to on phones and gadgets for ten years.

Now Google is saying goodbye to this helper.

A new helper named Gemini will take its place.

Starting on September 4, the change will begin on Android devices that support Gemini.

The switch will happen slowly, one device at a time, over a few weeks.

Once Gemini arrives on a device, people cannot go back to the old helper.

Saying 'Hey Google' will now start Gemini instead.

The old helper will stay for a while on some things, like cars with Google built-in and gadgets that cannot run Gemini.

Google says Gemini is smarter, can talk more naturally, and can even do internet chores like filling out forms if you let it.

Gemini can also use saved passwords with permission to finish tasks online.
