ISMA, ICAR-ISRI partner to set up sugarcane seed production centre

Sugarcane is a tall plant that farmers grow to make sugar.

Farmers need good seeds to grow healthy sugarcane, just like you need good seeds to grow plants in your garden.

A group called ISMA, which represents sugar companies in India, is teaming up with scientists from ICAR-ISRI in Lucknow.

Together, they are building a special centre to make quality sugarcane seeds.

The centre will cost about ₹80 crore, and both partners will share the cost equally.

Scientists will grow strong, disease-free, high-yielding seeds there.

Farmers will be able to get these better seeds through sugar mills.

With better seeds, farmers can grow more sugarcane, make more sugar, and earn more money.

The centre will also check seed quality and track seed lots using QR codes.

This helps make sure the seeds are pure and healthy.
