The bottles reportedly had fake labels, lids, holograms and QR codes.

These features were designed to make the bottles look like real liquor.

The bottles were taken to several places in Sagar district using vehicles and motorcycles.

The article says buyers found it difficult to tell whether the bottles were genuine.

Madhya Pradesh has also experienced fatal spurious-liquor incidents in Ujjain and Morena.

Those earlier incidents led to investigations and action against some officials.
