The testing was carried out by state and district laboratories.

The state tested 45,361 sources out of a goal of 48,055.

This means it completed 94.39% of its target.

Based on data through September 15, 2026, this was the highest result among Indian states.

The national average was 50.46%.

Punjab and Andhra Pradesh followed Uttar Pradesh in the ranking.

Uttar Pradesh still needs to test 2,694 sources to finish its target.

Officials said regular testing helps monitor drinking-water quality and water-source sustainability.
