Shirur Court Rejects Reconnection Plea in Electricity Theft Case
An electricity company in Maharashtra said it found evidence that a society had taken electricity without paying for it.
The company said the amount owed was more than ₹2.12 crore.
The society said it owed much less and paid about ₹5.24 lakh.
It asked a court to turn its electricity back on.
The electricity company argued that the full assessed amount had to be paid first.
The Shirur court rejected the request.
The case also led to a criminal complaint, according to the report.
The company says electricity theft can bring both legal and financial consequences.
The Shirur Additional Sessions Court rejected a request to restore electricity to M/s Saiprasad Milk Producer Society.
MSEDCL assessed the alleged theft at ₹2,12,21,030 after an inspection on February 14, 2025.

The consumer sought reconnection after paying ₹5,24,109, saying that amount was due under its own calculation.
