Uttar Pradesh Orders Hospital Pharmacies to Display Medicine Prices

Uttar Pradesh Orders Hospital Pharmacies to Display Medicine Prices
UP government orders hospital pharmacies to display purchase, sale prices of medicines from Nov 1 · indianexpress.com

Uttar Pradesh has introduced new rules for pharmacies.

Starting November 1, pharmacies inside hospitals must show what they pay for medicines and what they charge patients.

Retail pharmacies must also create public websites with information about their licence, pharmacist, premises and medicine stock.

They must update this information every week.

Officials say these steps will make medicine prices easier for patients to understand.

Some government medical colleges use a cost-plus approach for expensive medicines.

This means the amount patients pay is linked to what the hospital paid to buy the medicine.

The department says transparency should help patients benefit from medicines bought by institutions.
